
# UC Berkeley Students Build the Future of Web3 with Hyperweb

That's exactly what happened when **Hyperweb** teamed up with [**Blockchain at Berkeley**](https://blockchain.studentorg.berkeley.edu/)—one of the world's top student-run blockchain organizations. Over the course of a semester, six students rolled up their sleeves, dove into Hyperweb's new developer stack, and built 11 smart contracts from scratch using only TypeScript.

No Rust. No Solidity. Just JavaScript.

Every contract was written in TypeScript using the Hyperweb Virtual Machine (HVM) and deployed leveraging [Starship](https://github.com/hyperweb-io/starship/), the Hyperweb localnet.
