
It’s time to make the web whole again. The silo that Web3 exists in is of our own making, and it’s naive to think that there will simply be an exodus to this ecosystem so long as it continues to sit apart from the rest of the Web. There’s tremendous innovation and potential in Web3, but the barriers to entry are much too high, and we do developers a disservice by forcing them to choose between the Web2 and Web3 stacks.

Blockchains have evolved. We began with a simple protocol for ownership, Bitcoin, and from there progressed to making that ownership programmable on Ethereum. Then came the interchain, an interconnected network of blockchains that allowed ownership to flow seamlessly from one sovereign chain to another. The foundations and the rails have been laid, but there’s hardly any freight to be conveyed around Web3. 

It’s time we integrated the Web. It’s time for the interweb.

The interweb ushers in a new era of web applications that realize the synergies between blockchains and existing web technologies. In it, the efficiency of Web2 melds with the decentralization and autonomy of Web3, and the original, empowering vision of Web1—enabling expression and connection through a digital medium—comes full circle with strong ownership of one’s content and digital assets recognized and upheld by applications.

## Building the Interweb

To support this process of integration and the birth of the interweb, we’re creating the tools that make building interweb applications widely accessible. When Marc Benioff launched Salesforce, he revolutionized application development, taking much of the burdens of software development off of companies, so they could focus on implementing their novel ideas and not on developing the infrastructure needed to get them up and running. While in a literal sense this abstracted away the complexity of having a team of developers build software in-house, he didn’t call it “software abstraction” but rather “no-software” which later became “no-code”. 

In the same lineage, we’re bringing the no-code and low-code philosophy to the interweb with “no-chain” tools that abstract the complexities of underlying blockchain infrastructure. We’ve approached this new category of software from the highest level possible, and we’ve anticipated many of the challenges that have emerged across the blockchain landscape by building from the start in the interchain ecosystem. 

The tools we’ve built at Cosmology enable app developers to not just build in a no-chain manner on a particular blockchain but on and across many. [Telescope](https://github.com/cosmology-tech/telescope), for instance transforms Cosmos SDK chains into Typescript. Rather than abstract at the level of a single chain, Telescope generates Typescript libraries from any of the 150+ blockchains in the interchain, modularizing development across the ecosystem, so that developers face no platform lock-in on any particular chain. These and Cosmology’s other tools are a breath of fresh air for developers, and have already been [downloaded 8 million times](https://github.com/cosmology-tech/lib-count).

## Lessons from No-Code and Low-Code

In creating the no-chain stack, we’ve taken lessons from Web2 to improve upon what’s been possible in the no-code realm. In Web2, APIs have proliferated, but that’s created knock-on problems. Many companies now have to dedicate a team of developers to integrating APIs and maintaining those integrations as the APIs evolve. To avoid a similar situation with blockchains, we’ve gone ahead and made the abstractions inclusive of the entire interchain.

Our experience informs our vision for the interweb. For more than a decade we’ve been enabling application developers of all skill levels to build faster and more easily. Our approach revolves around abstraction, specifically using Abstract Syntax Trees to enable developers to work on a higher conceptual plane, where their ideas for how assets and objects interact are seamlessly transformed into low-level code. We even automatically package structured data that describes application elements in a machine-readable format, so that the interweb realizes the vision of the Semantic Web. 

Our printing press for the interweb allows builders to use intuitive no-code tools and low-code Javascript to develop apps, and the press does the transpiling work to bring those ideas to life on Web2 and Web3 infrastructure. This democratizes the capabilities of Web3 applications to the 18+ million Javascript developers in the world today, opening up a niche ecosystem of 22 thousand developers to the mainstream.
