
## Origins: Building the Foundation of Cosmology

In January 2022, at Miami Hack Week, I committed the first lines of code that would evolve into Cosmology. What started as a CLI tool for automating Cosmos DeFi workflows soon expanded into a comprehensive developer toolkit, with [Telescope](https://hyperweb.io/stack/telescope)'s release in April 2022 marking a significant milestone. Telescope streamlined blockchain development by generating TypeScript libraries for Cosmos SDK chains, while complementary tools like [Cosmos Kit](https://hyperweb.io/stack/interchain-kit) and [TS Codegen](https://hyperweb.io/stack/ts-codegen) simplified wallet interactions and CosmWasm smart contract development. This progress was made possible by the first grant Cosmology received from the Osmosis Foundation shortly after the Miami Hack Week hackathon, which provided critical support to fund Telescope’s initial development.

## The Story of Telescope and the CosmJS Merge

The story of Telescope and its eventual merge with CosmJS represents a groundbreaking collaboration between Cosmology and Confio. Telescope began as a visionary tool—a "Babel for Cosmos SDK"—transforming Cosmos blockchains into TypeScript libraries. By doing so, it empowered developers to engage with Cosmos SDK protocols without needing to navigate the underlying complexities of encoding, signing, or broadcasting transactions. This innovation was initially born out of my realization of developer experience gaps (which I previously built companies around in web2) in blockchain tooling and my mission to create tools that bridge those gaps seamlessly.

Confio, led by Simon Warta, had established itself as the backbone of the Cosmos ecosystem with CosmWasm and also the creator of CosmJS. When Simon and I first collaborated, we discovered a shared passion for simplifying development workflows and a mutual appreciation for high-quality engineering. Our synergy led to "The Merge™". Telescope became tightly integrated with CosmJS, turning these two projects into complementary pillars of the Cosmos developer stack. Confio described it as "[not just a merge but a marriage](https://x.com/confio_tech/status/1585291294468874241)," reflecting the profound alignment between our two teams.

The impact of this integration was transformative. Developers could now leverage Telescope’s SDK generation alongside CosmJS’s signing and transaction capabilities, creating an intuitive and powerful development environment. This not only automated much of the encoders but also relieved Simon from maintaining large portions of the codebase. Simon, who wanted to focus on advancing CosmWasm, was willing to hand over CosmJS. I, along with the Cosmology team, gladly stepped in to rebuild it from the ground up, ensuring greater cohesion and optimization with the rest of the Cosmology product suite. 

## Growing Adoption: The Interchain Developer Standard

By late 2022, Cosmology's tools became the de facto standard for interchain development. Osmosis integrated Cosmos Kit and Telescope across their ecosystem, powering everything from their main DEX to Mesh Security. Alongside hundreds of other projects, major projects like Celestia and dYdX chose Cosmology's stack to power their platforms and developer ecosystems, demonstrating its fundamental role in simplifying blockchain developer experience.

2023 saw exponential growth in enterprise adoption. Crypto.com integrated their wallet into Cosmos Kit to bring their DeFi wallet to Cosmos, bringing interchain functionality to millions of users. OKX followed suit by incorporating Cosmology's tools into their wallet extension. The team partnered with Noble to create Noble Express, delivering a seamless user experience for native USDC transfers between Circle's CCTP-supported networks and Noble chain. Stride and many others also standardized on the Cosmology stack, cementing its position as one of the backbones of interchain development.

This adoption influenced other major protocols to embrace Cosmology's tools as their primary development environment, establishing a unified standard across the ecosystem.

## Joining the Interchain Stack

Cosmology’s work didn’t go unnoticed. At Cosmoverse in 2022 I met Marko Baricevic, Head of Product for the Cosmos SDK and co-founder of Binary Builders. We had a fruitful conversation brainstorming Telescope’s potential, and Marko immediately recognized Telescope’s ability to revolutionize frontend tooling for the Cosmos SDK and attract developers. We stayed in touch as adoption of Cosmology tooling spread throughout the ecosystem. 

Fast forward to 2024 and Cosmology became an official part of the Interchain Stack, supported by funding from the Interchain Foundation (ICF) alongside other core ecosystem contributors, including our long-term partner Confio, that formed the “team of teams” building the foundations of the Interchain. This recognition validated the years of work that went into creating tools that were essential to the ecosystem. From Telescope’s TypeScript transformation of Cosmos SDK protocols to [Starship](https://hyperweb.io/stack/starship)’s groundbreaking development environment, the Cosmology team played a pivotal role in driving developer adoption and innovation.

The ICF’s vision of fostering interoperability and decentralization aligned perfectly with Cosmology’s mission to simplify blockchain development. Cosmology’s integration into the Interchain Stack reflected the ecosystem’s confidence in its tooling to empower developers and advance innovation.

## The Shift: Rebranding and Reinventing

In late 2024 the ecosystem’s landscape shifted. The ICF announced a strategic realignment—including redirecting funding away from the team-of-teams model—Cosmology faced an inflection point. While this transition marked the end of an era of direct ICF support, it also provided an opportunity for reinvention.

Rather than viewing this as a setback, the team chose to embrace positivity and reimagine its mission. In October 2024, Cosmology officially announced a new brand and vision: [Hyperweb](https://hyperweb.io/). This marked not just a new name but an evolution toward a broader goal—creating an end-to-end TypeScript ecosystem that integrates deeply with the Interchain JavaScript Stack. In keeping with the Cosmos rebrand to Interchain, Cosmology is now officially Hyperweb.

## Introducing Hyperweb: A Unified Future

Hyperweb builds on Cosmology’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in blockchain development. The rebrand reflects a commitment to bridging Web2 and Web3 and making blockchain development accessible to millions of JavaScript developers worldwide. By leveraging tools like [InterchainJS](https://hyperweb.io/stack/interchainjs) (formerly CosmJS), [Interchain Kit](https://hyperweb.io/stack/interchain-kit) (formerly Cosmos Kit), and [Create Interchain App](https://hyperweb.io/stack/create-interchain-app) (formerly Create Cosmos App), Hyperweb offers developers a seamless and interoperable experience.

Hyperweb’s "no-chain" philosophy—an evolution of Cosmology’s approach—abstracts the complexities of blockchain infrastructure, enabling developers to focus on building impactful applications rather than grappling with technical details. With TypeScript as the unifying language for frontend, backend, and smart contracts, Hyperweb empowers developers to craft decentralized applications with the same ease as building traditional web apps.

## The Node.js Moment for Blockchain

Hyperweb is emerging as the "Node.js moment for blockchain," creating an end-to-end TypeScript ecosystem that bridges Web2 and Web3. The evolution is bringing refined tools: InterchainJS, Interchain Kit, and Create Interchain App. Our "no-chain" philosophy abstracts blockchain complexity, allowing developers to focus on building what matters, impactful applications.

Our tools have already driven [40 million+ downloads](https://github.com/hyperweb-io/lib-count), powering everything from Web3 applications to databases for industry leaders like Supabase and Neon DB. The Interchain JavaScript Stack—featuring InterchainJS, Telescope, and Starship—represents the future of blockchain development, emphasizing modularity, interoperability, and accessibility.

## Aligning with the Interchain Vision

As the Cosmos ecosystem rebranded to the Interchain, Hyperweb’s mission aligns perfectly with this new direction. The Interchain JavaScript Stack represents the future of blockchain development. Hyperweb ensures that developers can build applications that seamlessly navigate the Internet of Blockchains.

Hyperweb is more than a continuation of Cosmology’s work—it’s a reimagining of what’s possible. The team’s focus on simplifying developer workflows, enhancing UI/UX, and fostering innovation has already transformed the blockchain space. Now, with the Interchain JavaScript Stack at its core, Hyperweb is poised to lead the next wave of blockchain adoption.
